Change the example inputs to your own values. Check the method and limitations below.
How to use this calculator
Enter Hours worked, Hourly rate ($), Regular-hour threshold, Overtime multiplier. The result updates in your browser as you edit an input. The prefilled values are examples only.
How the estimate works
Pay hours up to your selected threshold at the regular rate and later hours at the selected multiplier. Check local rules and your employer policy.
What can change the answer?
Gross pay can include bonuses, multiple rates, or other compensation that changes the regular rate. State requirements and exemptions vary. Use your pay statement and applicable labor guidance for a final check.
Before relying on the result
Use the total hours for the period to which your chosen threshold applies. Compare gross results with gross amounts on a statement, keeping deductions separate. Verify the applicable rate, coverage and requirements; a private policy alone may not establish the correct overtime treatment. Bonuses and multiple rates may require a different model.
Further reference
The U.S. Department of Labor overtime fact sheet provides context for U.S. federal requirements. It is not a source for an employer-specific threshold or a determination of coverage. This calculator does not automatically apply eligibility tests, state requirements or adjustments to the regular rate.
Worked example with the default inputs
At 45 hours, a $20 rate, a 40-hour threshold and a 1.5 multiplier, regular pay is $800 and overtime pay is $150. The combined $950 is gross modeled pay before deductions.
Interpret the result in a planning record
The overtime calculator pays hours up to your chosen threshold at the regular rate and later hours at the chosen multiplier. Its fields are assumptions you control. Use the relevant policy and applicable requirements to select them. The result does not include deductions, multiple pay rates or other compensation that may change payroll treatment.
Save the input values, units and result together. Change one uncertain input at a time so you can see which assumption moves the answer. A displayed decimal is arithmetic precision, rather than evidence that the measurements or rates are equally precise.
